Add highlights and privacy covers

Draw attention to an area, show recorded shortcuts and cover information before sharing.

Zones are rectangles you place yourself. They do not automatically follow a moving person or window. If the target moves, use separate zones at the relevant times and inspect each one.

  1. Open Zone and choose + highlight.
  2. Drag on the preview to draw the area that should stay prominent.
  3. Adjust Dim outside and its color to reduce distractions around that area.
  4. Resize the zone block on the timeline, then tune Fade in and Fade out.
Highlight a step and cover private text

Cover information before sharing

Choose + blur for a soft visual blur, or + mask for a colored cover. A mask at 100% opacity is the clearer choice when the text underneath must not remain readable.

For private details, set Fade in and Fade out to zero, use zero Feather, and make the mask slightly larger than the information. Keep the cover visible for the entire time the information appears, including during zooms and transitions.

Check the finished export, including the frames just before and after the covered section. Also listen for information spoken in the audio and read any captions or keyboard overlays.

Show keyboard shortcuts in a tutorial

If the recording includes keyboard events, open Keys and enable Show keyboard overlay. Adjust colors, text size, weight, spacing, padding and Bottom position.

New segment gap controls when separate groups of keys are shown. Stay visible controls how long a group remains after the last recorded key.

Keyboard events must have been captured with the recording. The overlay cannot reconstruct shortcuts from the video image. Save the project explicitly after changing keyboard overlay settings.

If an overlay looks wrong

  • A zone does not appear: check that playback is inside its timeline block and that the block is not in a removed section.
  • The cover is briefly transparent: check Opacity, Feather and both fade durations.
  • A cover misses a moving detail: reposition it for that moment or add another zone. Review the export after zoom or crop changes.
  • Keyboard labels are hard to read: increase their size or contrast in Keys and use a stronger background color.
  • Keyboard overlay is empty: check that this is the original Screenix project with recorded key events.
  • Preview and export differ: contact support with the affected time and an example that contains no private information.
