Manage links, privacy, and viewer feedback
Choose who can view, add a password or expiry, manage downloads and comments, and remove a shared file.
On this page
Find your shared files
In the desktop app, open Shared to open, copy, or delete files stored on Screenix hosting. On the website, open Shared files while signed in to the account that uploaded them.
Choose Share settings beside a file on the website to change its name, description, access, expiry, downloads, and comments. These settings also appear to the owner on the viewing page.
Your storage uploads are managed with your storage provider. They do not appear in the Screenix hosted file list.
Choose who can view
- Open the file’s Share settings on the website.
- Under Who can view, select Anyone with the link, Anyone with the password, or Members of my team.
- For password access, enter a password with 6 to 128 characters. When editing a password-protected share, leave New password (optional) empty to keep the current password.
- For team access, choose a team where you are an active member. Viewers must sign in with an account that has active membership in that team.
- Save the settings. Open the link in a private browser window to see what a recipient sees.
Set an expiry or control downloads
Set Expiration date to stop recipient access at a chosen date and time. For a regular paid hosted share, leave it empty if you do not want a scheduled expiry. Trial retention still applies to trial shares.
Turn Allow downloads off to remove the viewer download option. The owner can still download the file. This setting does not prevent someone from recording or capturing content they can view.
The owner can also open an expired share while signed in. Use a private browser window when checking whether a recipient is blocked. A downloaded file remains on the recipient’s device after a link expires or is deleted.
A video or image that a recipient has already opened can remain available for a while after you change access or expiry. These controls cannot recall a file someone has already saved.
Review a shared video’s captions
When a shared video has captions, the viewing page can show a searchable Transcript. Click a transcript entry to jump to that moment. Viewers can also copy the transcript.
As the owner, you can correct caption text and start or end times, search and replace words, remove a caption, and adjust the default appearance. Choose Save changes to publish those edits. The live preview alone does not save them.
Use the caption availability control or Make captions available in Share settings to show or hide captions for viewers. The owner can still see captions that are hidden from viewers.
The transcript controls also let the owner download captions or replace the caption file with a valid .vtt file up to 8 MB. Caption edits here affect the hosted share. They do not rewrite the video file on your computer.
Delete a share or publish an updated version
Use Delete in the desktop Shared list or the website Shared files list and confirm the deletion. This removes the hosted file and its viewing link. The website confirmation warns that deletion cannot be undone.
Deleting a share does not delete the recording, project, or finished export stored on your computer. To publish an updated video or screenshot, upload the revised file and send its new link.
If you need help changing access or finding a share, contact [email protected] or use the contact form.
Collect comments and reactions
With Allow comments enabled, viewers can leave feedback and reply to comments. On a video, the comment button can attach the current playback time. Clicking that timestamp jumps to the relevant moment. Screenshot comments do not use video timestamps.
A guest can comment after entering a name. Signed-in viewers use their account identity. Comments can contain up to 2,000 characters. Feedback is visible to people who can access the share.
Viewers can edit or delete their own comments, and the owner can remove comments on the share. A guest’s ability to edit is remembered in that browser, so it may not be available after clearing browser data or switching devices.
Turning off Allow comments also disables the reactions shown on the page. If posting is temporarily limited after repeated comments or reactions, wait a little before trying again.
