1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Screenix ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our screen recording application and related services.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address. You can sign in using email magic links, Google OAuth, or GitHub OAuth. We do not store passwords.
Trial Information: During the trial period, we collect your device name, Linux distribution and version, desktop environment or compositor, display server type (Wayland or X11), and Screenix version to ensure Screenix works correctly on your system.
Diagnostic Information: If a recording fails, Screenix may send diagnostic information to help us investigate and fix the issue. This may include your email address, app version, Linux distribution, desktop environment, display server, encoder, recording mode, monitor metadata, frame counts, output file size, FFmpeg error output, and related technical context. Diagnostic reports do not include recording content. If you want to opt out of diagnostic reporting, please contact us.
Recordings: Recordings are stored locally on your device by default. If you choose Screenix-hosted sharing, the video and thumbnail you select are uploaded to our cloud storage so we can provide the sharing link. We do not upload recordings merely because you create or export them.
3. Analytics and Tracking
Current Website Analytics: We collect aggregate first-party audience measurements, including page-view totals, transitions between pages, referring domains, country, browser, device type, and operating system. We do not assign a persistent website analytics identifier, retain a new individual visitor journey, or connect these current measurements to accounts or purchases. Temporary browser-session flags prevent the same action from being counted repeatedly. Aggregate website analytics are retained for no more than 25 months.
Historical Website Analytics: Before August 9, 2026, Screenix used individual website analytics records containing a random visitor and session identifier, visited paths, referring and campaign information, browser and device details, and, for some visitors, a link to a Screenix account or completed checkout. We no longer add new records to that system. We retain this historical dataset for internal historical analysis until September 8, 2027, after which it will be deleted or anonymized. We do not use it for advertising, automated decisions, or personal outreach.
Desktop Usage Measurement: The Screenix desktop application creates a random installation identifier in its local configuration directory. Ten seconds after launch and when the first interaction, a completed recording, an edit, or an export occurs, Screenix sends that identifier together with the operating-system description and display-server type to our server. We use cumulative yes-or-no markers for these actions to count installations and understand where the product workflow succeeds or stops. This record does not contain recording content, filenames, an email address, or a Screenix account identifier, and we do not connect it to website browsing or purchases. We retain an installation identifier and its associated funnel record for no more than 13 months from first collection.
We process these measurements based on our legitimate interests in understanding service usage, improving navigation and product reliability, and evaluating whether Screenix helps users complete recording workflows. After a purchase, you may optionally tell us how you found Screenix. If you respond, the answer is stored with the completed checkout so we can count self-reported purchase sources. You may contact us to object to analytics processing or request access to or deletion of applicable personal data.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Authenticate users and manage accounts
- Process payments and manage subscriptions
- Analyze usage patterns to improve user experience
- Diagnose recording failures and improve Linux compatibility
- Detect and prevent fraud and abuse
- Communicate with you about updates and support
5. Data Storage and Security
Hosting: Our website and account services are hosted on a privately managed virtual private server. Videos and thumbnails intentionally uploaded through Screenix-hosted sharing are stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage.
Local Storage: Your recordings remain on your device unless you choose to upload one with Screenix-hosted sharing. We store recording metadata such as duration, timestamps, and file size as needed to enforce plan and hosted-sharing limits.
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. We may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.
The specific analytics periods are described above: no more than 25 months for aggregate website analytics, no more than 13 months from first collection for a desktop installation identifier and its funnel record, and until September 8, 2027 for the historical individual website analytics dataset.
Videos uploaded through hosted sharing during a trial remain available for 30 days after the trial ends. If you do not activate a plan that includes Screenix-hosted sharing before that period ends, we permanently delete those videos, their thumbnails, and their associated share records. You may also delete a hosted video yourself at any time.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including:

- Restriction or objection to processing

8. Third-Party Services
We use third-party services to operate our Service:
- Cloudflare R2 (hosted video and thumbnail storage)

The Service is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
