Recover an interrupted recording
Handle low disk space, lost audio, an unexpected stop, or a crash while giving Screenix the best chance to keep your footage.

If the recording stops unexpectedly
- Read the message and wait while Screenix finalizes the usable footage. Avoid forcing it to close while it is saving.
- When the preview or editor opens, play the beginning and the end. Listen for gaps and check that the picture is moving.
- Use Open folder where available to locate the result. Keep a copy of the whole recording folder before attempting further repairs.
- If the result is incomplete, keep what was recovered and record the missing section again. Send the error to support if the interruption repeats.
Not enough disk space, or disk space is running low
Screenix checks available space before recording. The amount it asks for depends on the capture size and frame rate, so use the amount in your error message instead of assuming one minimum works for every recording.
During recording, Screenix can warn about low space and stop before the disk is completely full. Let it save the footage, then free space or choose another Settings > Save location for your next recording.
- Move files you no longer need on that drive to another drive. Keep your current recording folder and all its media together.
- A longer recording, camera track, or high resolution needs more space. Leave extra room for the final export and temporary processing files.
- If Screenix cannot determine available space, use a connected local folder you can write to, then try again.
An audio source disappears during recording
If the audio process stops, Screenix can keep recording the screen and preserve the audio already captured. Continuing video does not mean continuing sound.
Stop when practical, reconnect the device, and choose it again in the microphone or system audio picker. Record a short sample and listen to it before continuing the lesson. If you paused and audio could not resume, treat the remainder as potentially silent.
See Audio and camera for device selection and level meters.
Screenix or the computer closed before you could stop
- Keep the recording files and reconnect the drive containing them. Open Screenix again.
- On startup, Screenix attempts to recover the most recent interrupted recording it has saved recovery information for. It opens usable recovered footage in the appropriate Studio editor or Instant preview.
- Review and back up anything recovered. Check audio and camera as well as the screen video.
- If no recovered recording opens, look in your configured save location and Projects. Keep any files that remain and ask us for help.
Finish normally when you can
Use the recording toolbar, your stop shortcut, or Stop Recording in the system tray. Wait for processing to finish before closing Screenix, disconnecting the destination drive, logging out, or shutting down.
Closing the main window during an active recording can hide it to the tray or minimize it. That does not stop the recording. The tray's Quit action exits the app, so use Stop Recording first.
For an interrupted export rather than an interrupted recording, follow Export and recovery.
