1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Screenix ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
Screenix is a screen recording application designed for a wide range of Linux distributions and desktop environments, on both X11 and supported Wayland setups. The Service includes desktop application software and web-based account management. Recordings are stored locally on your device by default. Screenix-hosted sharing lets eligible users intentionally upload selected recordings for access through a sharing link.
3. User Accounts
To use certain features of the Service, you must create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.
4. Analytics
When you use the Screenix website, we collect aggregate first-party audience measurements to understand traffic and improve navigation. These measurements include page-view totals, aggregate transitions between pages, referring domains, country, browser, device type, and operating system. We also count aggregate visits to the trial page and interactions with download links or installation commands to understand the website funnel.
The current website collector does not assign a persistent analytics identifier, retain a new individual visitor journey, connect website activity to an account, or attribute a purchase to tracked browsing activity. The website uses temporary browser-session flags to avoid counting the same action repeatedly.
Screenix retains a historical individual website analytics dataset collected before August 9, 2026. Some of those records link browsing activity to an account or completed checkout. We no longer add new records to that system and will delete or anonymize the historical dataset after September 8, 2027. Current aggregate website analytics are retained for no more than 25 months.
The desktop application creates a random installation identifier in its local configuration directory and sends it with operating-system and display-server information. We record cumulative markers for first interaction, completed recording, editing, and export so we can measure whether installations progress through the Screenix workflow. The record is not linked to website browsing, a Screenix account, or a purchase and is retained for no more than 13 months from first collection.
After a completed purchase, we may optionally ask how you found Screenix. You may answer or dismiss the question. A submitted answer is associated with that purchase but is not inferred from your browsing history. See our Privacy Policy for more information about how we handle personal data.
5. Software License
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to download, install, and use the Screenix desktop application for your personal or business use.
Reverse Engineering Prohibition: You may not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the Screenix application, including but not limited to the .deb package or any other distributed binary format. This prohibition applies to all versions of the software, including trial, free, and paid versions.
6. Trial and Subscription Terms
We offer trial and free tier access to the Service with limited functionality. For these tiers, we store metadata about your recordings (such as duration, timestamps, and file size) on our servers to enforce plan limitations. Recordings remain local unless you choose Screenix-hosted sharing, in which case the selected video and thumbnail are uploaded to our cloud storage and made available through the sharing link.
Trial-hosted videos remain available for 30 days after the trial ends. Unless you activate a plan that includes Screenix-hosted sharing before then, we permanently delete those videos, their thumbnails, and their associated share records after the retention period.
Paid subscriptions provide additional features and higher recording limits. Payments are processed through Stripe and are subject to their terms as well. See our refund policy for details on cancellations and refunds.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations
- Infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others
- Distribute malware or harmful software
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its related systems
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
- Reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the software
8. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
10. Limitation of Liability
In no event shall Screenix or its creators be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the Service.
11. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of significant changes by posting the new Terms on this page with an updated date.
