Record your screen·4 min read

Create a ready-to-share Instant video

Set up automatic zoom, cursor styling, subtitles, titles, and a sharing destination before you record.

Prepare the appearance before recording

Select Instant under Workflow, then open Recording settings. Instant creates a finished MP4. Zoom, cursor effects, and camera placement become part of that video, so choose Studio before recording when you want detailed editing afterward.

  • Recording: set Auto zoom, Zoom duration, Start countdown, Frame rate, and Encoder. Instant offers 30, 60, 90, 100, and 120 fps. Higher frame rates need more processing capacity.
  • Camera: enable your camera, choose the device, and arrange the overlay.
  • Cursor: choose a theme and set Size, Sway, and Shadow. Keep the cursor large enough for viewers to follow without covering small controls.
  • Subtitles: enable automatic speech captions and choose their appearance.
  • Titles: optionally suggest a title from the recorded speech.
  • Sharing: choose whether to keep the recording local or upload it when capture finishes.
Record and share an Instant video

Add automatic subtitles

Speech recognition runs locally after the required model is downloaded. Automatic text can mishear names, technical terms, accents, or overlapping speakers. Review captions before relying on them for a lesson or public video.

  1. Enable Microphone, System audio, or both so the recording contains speech.
  2. Open Subtitles and turn on Add subtitles automatically.
  3. Choose the spoken Language, or use Detect automatically. Selecting the language is useful when automatic detection gets it wrong.
  4. Choose a Whisper model. Base is the app's suggested balance of speed and accuracy. Larger models take more storage and can take longer to process.
  5. Use Download & use before your recording session. Wait for the Downloaded indicator. Models stay on this device.
  6. Adjust the subtitle appearance and position, then record clearly. After stopping, allow the caption processing to finish and review the result.

Suggest a title automatically

Open Titles and enable Suggest titles automatically. Download a Title model and the Whisper model used to transcribe the speech. Automatic titles and Instant subtitles share the speech model selection.

A title is suggested from locally transcribed speech before the Instant sharing flow finishes. If there is no selected audio source or no detected speech, the recording keeps its filename title. Treat the suggestion as a starting point and edit the title where the share page controls allow it.

Choose what happens after you stop

In Sharing, choose Don't share to keep the finished video on this device. Choose Screenix hosting to create a Screenix viewing page, or Your storage to use a configured R2 or S3-compatible bucket. The choices shown depend on your plan and storage configuration.

With a sharing destination selected, upload can begin automatically after capture. Choose Don't share before recording when you want to review the video before publishing a link.

After you stop, the preview shows progress and the sharing result. Use Copy link or Open link when ready. For a local recording, Share video starts a manual upload. If link creation fails, the preview offers Try again. See Screenix hosting or your own storage for setup and viewer access.

When captions, titles, or sharing fail

For a recurring failure, send the exact message through the contact form. Include whether the local video plays, the selected model, and whether a share link was already created.

  • Recording will not start with subtitles on: enable an audio source, or turn automatic subtitles off for a silent recording.
  • Model download failed: check the connection and free disk space, then use Download & use again. Download in advance if you plan to work offline.
  • No speech detected: listen to the recording and check your selected microphone or system output. Music and silent video do not provide speech to transcribe.
  • Wrong language or inaccurate words: choose the spoken language, improve microphone clarity, and try a different model for your next capture.
  • Subtitles failed after recording: the video may still be saved. Read the message before recording again. With Screenix hosting, the video may already be shared while its captions failed to attach.
  • Your storage did not upload after a subtitle error: automatic upload can stop at this point even though the local recording was saved. Review the local video and use the manual sharing action when ready.
  • The title is still the filename: speech may not have been detected, or the title model may not have been available. Enter a suitable title manually where supported.
  • Processing is slow: a high frame rate, camera effects, or a large speech model can add work. Allow processing to finish and choose simpler settings for the next take.
