Screenix records browser tabs only. Many generic recorders can also capture your whole screen or other apps, but bake in the system cursor and can't zoom.

Built into Chrome?

Does Chrome have a built-in screen recorder?

No. Desktop Chrome on Windows, Mac and Linux has no record button. ChromeOS has a basic screen capture tool, and Chrome's DevTools can record performance traces, but neither produces a polished video.

To record a tab in Chrome, you install an extension. Most use Chrome's tab or screen capture, which includes your system cursor as it moved. Screenix captures page pixels only and draws a better cursor afterwards.

Two modes

Instant when you're in a hurry, Studio when it matters

Instant mode renders the final video while you record: cursor, background, camera and optional zoom on clicks. When you press stop, the MP4 is ready to download or share, with no export bar.

Studio mode opens the recording in an editor with a timeline. Adjust zooms, crop, trim, speed up slow parts from 0.25× to 16×, pick a background and aspect ratio, and tune the cursor. Any Instant video can be opened in Studio too.

Private by default

Your recordings stay on your computer

Screenix stores recordings in your browser's storage and encodes exports locally. You don't need an account to record. Nothing is uploaded unless you create a share link.

  • No account to record, edit or export
  • Exports encoded on your machine with WebCodecs
  • Share links only when you choose, with a Screenix yearly or team plan

What you get

Every detail of a good demo,
handled for you.

The cursor, rebuilt

A cursor that looks animated by hand

Screenix records the page without your system cursor, then draws a crisp macOS-style one in its place, with spring smoothing, click bumps, motion blur and a soft fade when you stop moving. Seven cursor themes, all adjustable.

Add to Chrome

Auto zoom

Zooms that follow your clicks

Screenix zooms in on every click and pans with the cursor, so viewers see what you did without squinting. Keep the automatic zooms or move, resize and add your own on the timeline.

Follows your tabs

Switch tabs and the recording comes with you

Open a link, jump to another tab or reload the page. Screenix keeps recording whichever tab is in front in the same window, so a whole flow fits in one take.

Add to Chrome

Camera and audio

Your camera, exactly where it belongs

Add your webcam as a bubble you can drag anywhere, round or square, with your microphone and the sound of the tab you started on.

From stop to sent

Send a link instead of a file

With a Screenix yearly or team plan, upload from the editor and copy the link. Viewers watch in any browser and can leave timestamped comments. Without one, export MP4 or WebM up to 4K, free.

Know before you install

Tabs only,
and it follows you between them.

Screenix for Chrome records the tab in front of you, so it can draw a perfect cursor over pure page pixels.

Records browser tabs

Screenix captures the page in the tab you're on, at full quality, without your system cursor.

Follows you between tabs

Switch tabs, open links or reload in the same window and the recording keeps going in one take.

Tab audio from the first tab

Your mic and camera record throughout. Page sound comes from the tab you started on.

Not your whole screen

It doesn't capture your desktop, other apps or other windows. On Linux, the Screenix desktop app does.
